Our Ethos – Ethical Products, Ethically Produced
Have you ever wondered how many people were involved in making your shoes? What they look like? What environment do they work in? Perhaps so, but it will most likely remain one of life’s great mysteries.
What sets us apart is that we want you to know who made our products and where they come from. We want you to know what these girls and young women have overcome and what they aspire to be. We want them to be seen.
They experienced disadvantaged starts in life and several have, quite frankly, experienced some truly horrific ordeals but their futures are promising and we support them entirely. Through This Red Thread supporting The Lighthouse Foundation and offering part-time work producing TRT’s products, it provides an income to these young women while still being able to pursue higher education and carve a better future for themselves.
The Start You Would Never Choose For Your Daughter
These girls hail from the Badi community, the lowest tier in the caste system in Nepal. An extremely sad truth is that many Badi girls are abducted and forced into a life of prostitution in India because their families cannot afford to support them throughout their adolescence. Horrifyingly, this was the case for some of the wonderful young women who we work with at The Lighthouse Foundation. They were able to escape with help from The Lighthouse Foundation and we hope they never need to look back.
